TWINNING AS A MEANS TO SOCIAL INTEGRATION

GOALS

Help people get to know each other
This twinning programme aims to bring together people living here (oppure "living in Québec City") and people from elsewhere, in order to eliminate the mutual lack of understanding that impedes or often slows the integration into Québec society of new arrivals.
Prevent racism and discrimination The purpose of the programme in a multicultural society such as ours is to help establish harmonious and inclusive relationships, and as such can be seen as playing an important role in preventing racism and discrimination.
Play an active part in society Because it is based on the civic involvement of the members of Québec society the twinning programme is one way to participate in community relations and also in the flowering of French.

CRITERIA

Anyone 18 and older, whether a long-time Québec City resident or an immigrant with permanent resident status. Once the interview has taken place, twinning is set up with the common interests, the expectations and the availability of the “twins” in mind. The support, the framework within which the twinning is to occur and the follow-up are provided. As well, participation in the group activities of the “twins” (6 per year) is requested.
